A light ruby color. The aroma is dominated by wild berries, fresh strawberries, and tomato leaf, complexed with a subtle vanilla from the barrels and volcanic notes. It has a very elegant taste, with smooth tannins and a medium body. The finish is very pleasant, persistent, and salty.
The Vitivinicultural Cooperative of Pico Island was founded in 1949, when local producers united to try to recover the noble grape varieties and the culture of vine growing in stone corrals, now classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Over the years, more members joined this cause, now totaling 250, among women, men, and families who dedicate their lives to their passion and an ancient art. Today, with 75 years of history, it is the oldest wine producer in the Azores and continues to respect and preserve winemaking traditions. This alliance ensures the quality of wines created in Azorean soils.
Vinification: The grape must was fermented with the skins to extract more color and tannin. Temperatures were controlled to preserve the fruity aroma. A small percentage of oak was used to complement and provide structure.
