Robert Parker, tasting note published in June 19th 2018
I found the 2015 As Caborcas very aromatic and expressive, reminiscent of a cold year, but 2015 was a warmer year and the wines have good volume, and the reds are unctuous, within the character of Galicia. It gains complexity with time in the glass, and mixes wild flowers, herbs and spices, with a touch of herbs and a touch of earth. The palate is super tasty and expressive, with an outgoing personality, unlike other vintages when it seemed to need time in the glass. This is a showy, accessible vintage from As Caborcas that combines power with elegance, concentration and finesse. It matured in 2,000-litre oak for 15 months. 2,622 bottles were filled in May 2016.
Caborcas is one of the most unique wines produced by Telmo Rodríguez in Galicia.
The 2015 Caborcas comes from 80 year old vines planted on a mountainside in the Bibei Valley. Here we find a mosaic of varieties such as mencía, sousón, brancellao, merenzao, garnacha tintorera and godello mainly at an altitude of 600 m. and poor soils of decomposed granite. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts in open wooden vats and stainless steel tanks and then aged for 15 months in French oak barrels.
