O Produtor, tasting note published in July 27th 2023

With a beautiful violet color of good concentration, the Rubrica red presents on the nose an aromatic, austere profile full of character, complemented by more complex notes of spices and mint. In the mouth, it is rich in flavors of concentrated black fruit and has a firm structure with well-present tannins and refreshing acidity. The finish is medium to long, of remarkable elegance.

Rubrica

The wine was born in Reguengos, on Monte do Carrapelo, in the ten hectares of a young vineyard that Luís Duarte envisioned, designed, and planted—a vineyard treated with care and personal insistence, with his hand commanding every detail. Rubrica was the first fruit of a personal project initiated in 2007. A wine as expected, serious, complex, and tremendously seductive.

The grapes were hand-harvested and transported in 15kg crates to the winery entrance, where they were carefully selected on a sorting table, partially destemmed, and crushed. The different grape varieties were fermented separately to extract the maximum potential of each. Fermentation took place, on average, for 15 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel lagares (25-28 ºC). Daily remontages were performed during the fermentations of the six varieties as needed. Malolactic fermentation and aging in new French oak barrels for 12 months.

Decant before serving. This wine significantly improves with an hour of prior aeration.

It is ideal for pairing with Mediterranean dishes such as grilled octopus or cod à lagareiro. It also pairs very well with game dishes, such as partridge or wild boar stew.

Luis Duarte Vinhos

Founded in 2007, Luis Duarte Vinhos is a family business run by winemaker Luis Duarte and his wife, Dora Simões. It is headquartered on the Monte do Carrapatelo estate, located in the Reguengos de Monsaraz wine subregion in the Alentejo, south of Portugal. With 10 hectares of vineyards, the property enjoys a continental Mediterranean climate, characterized by very hot and dry summers, but with remarkable daily thermal amplitude, which promotes the retention of acids in the grapes, in addition to the development of aromas. Winters are cold and severe and it is this season of the year that most of the rainfall is concentrated. The soils are predominantly slimey, ensuring good water retention, which is fundamental for vines during the summer months. All viticulture is governed by sustainable practices, with cultural interventions carefully adapted to each grape variety and each plot. All vineyards were planted in 2004.
