O Produtor, tasting note published in December 27th 2023

Uncomplicated wine, which reflects the fresh and versatile profile of the Gouveia sub-region on the slopes of the Serra da Estrela. Light in color with some brick nuances characteristic of the grape varieties that make up the blend. On the nose, it presents notes of aromatic herbs, tobacco, cherry, and menthol nuances that give it freshness and some complexity. On the palate, it is elegant, round, and with good acidity. Being a delicate wine, with a youthful profile, it should be served chilled.

Rótulo

Rótulo was born from our intention to produce wines with a traditional profile, fresh, light, gastronomic, and suitable for any occasion. The dream of starting to produce wines in Dão began in 2012 and, since then, we have been looking for plots, some with very old vines, that express the unique character of this region, where the mountainous microclimate and granite soils have produced great wines over time.

Vinification: 2020 was a year with a harsh, long winter with quite high rainfall. An almost nonexistent spring and a very mild summer, with some very hot days. These conditions made disease control and grape ripening a bit challenging. With the desired ripeness achieved, the harvest started on August 25 and ended on September 24. It was a difficult year, but one in which wines with good acidity and excellent aging potential were obtained. Vinification took place in stainless steel vats, with prolonged maceration and almost no extraction. After the alcoholic fermentation process was finished, it was aged in cement vats, and then bottled without any filtration. Bottled in December 2023.

We suggest pairing it with traditional Portuguese dishes such as braised veal, duck rice, oven-roasted cod, or traditional sausages.

Niepoort Vinhos

The Niepoort family has been creating Port Wines since 1842. The first property in Douro was bought in 1987 and Dirk Niepoort started a new Era in the company with the creation of the first Redoma red in 1991. In the last years Niepoort took on the great challenge of interpreting other soils and climates and acquired two properties in other regions, Dão and Bairrada. Discover the Niepoort Triangle which express the different terroirs: Schist (Douro), Limestone (Bairrada) and Granite (Dão).
