O Produtor, tasting note published in December 9th 2021

Deep ruby in color, it presents on the nose notes of fresh forest fruits well integrated with elegant notes of spices and esteva. On the palate, it has an elegant attack, evolving into a wine with excellent dimension and structure, composed of fresh tannins with a fine texture. A wine made with Bordeaux technology but reflecting the identity of the Douro. It finishes harmoniously with excellent persistence.

Roquette & Cazes

An exceptional wine that I am proud to produce in the wonderful demarcated region of the Douro, combined with the ancestral winemaking wisdom of the Cazes family and our knowledge of this land. The result is unique.” – Jorge Roquette

The vineyards, with an average age of 35 years, are planted on terraces of two tiers. All grapes are handpicked and come exclusively from the sub-regions of Cima Corgo and Douro Superior. After careful selection upon entering the winery, the grapes are destemmed, gently crushed, and transferred to conical stainless steel fermentation tanks, where alcoholic fermentation begins at a controlled temperature. During the fermentation process, the French technique of “délestage” is used, which aims to increase the skin contact surface when the must/wine is leached over the masses. The result is a concentrated and complex wine but very elegant and enveloping.

Aging: Xisto Roquette & Cazes 2019 aged 100% in new French oak barrels for 20 months.

Decant before serving. Serve Xisto – Roquette & Cazes wine at a temperature of 16 ºC, pairing with all kinds of meat dishes, game, and other well-spiced dishes.

Roquette & Cazes

The Roquette & Cazes project is above all a meeting of two friends: Jorge Roquette from Quinta do Crasto and Jaen-Michel Cazes from Château Lynch-Bages.
In 2002, the two families decided to create a company to produce great wines that were marked by the natural characteristics of the Douro and the experience of Cazes who have been making wines in Bordeaux for about a century.
A wine adventure “To make a great wine with the Douro grape varieties, a wine that shows structure and complexity, that possesses the power and the sun of Portugal combined with the elegance of Bordeaux”, said Jaen-Michel Cazes as part of this adventure.
