O Produtor, tasting note published in May 9th 2022
Deep and fresh, the URTIGA 2018 is very elegant and seductive. It presents a long and structured finish, ripe tannins and an extraordinary freshness and vivacity. URTIGA is the ultimate expression of the Douro's unique terroir. A legacy of nature in its purest form.
The grapes arrive at the winery transported in small boxes, and a selection is made, after which they are destemmed, crushed and sent to the granite press, where they are crushed by foot. Crushing is carried out in the traditional way. The final alcoholic and malolactic fermentation is done without skins, in French oak vats. The wine ages in wood for 16 months, 90% in small volume barrels and 10% in new French oak barrels. The expression of this vineyard is enhanced by maturation in barrique, and the barrique allows all the dimensions to be balanced and refined. After bottling, it ages in bottle for 2 years.

Ramilo Wines
Since 1937, the Ramilo family has been dedicated to wine on the Atlantic coast between Colares and Mafra, once one of Portugal’s most famous wine regions. Four generations later, dissatisfied with the abandonment of local traditions, brothers Pedro and Nuno Ramilo left everything and returned to their origins. They faced blockades, moved stones and mountains, rehabilitated farms, saved old vineyards and replanted new ones. They rescued from oblivion the true vines of Colares and the noble varieties of the region.
