O Produtor, tasting note published in September 13th 2024

A complex aroma marked by a blend of red fruits and balsamic notes. On the palate, the freshness and salinity of the Ramisco perfectly complement the silky texture of the traditional Castelão clones from Vale do Lizandro.

Ramilo

The red wine Ramilo Ramisco Castelão is a DOC Colares wine, one of the oldest and most unique appellations of origin in Portugal. Produced in organic production mode, it comes from vineyards planted with views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Serra de Sintra as a backdrop.

Oenology:
This blend combines 70% Ramisco and 30% Castelão. The grapes, hand-harvested, were carefully selected and destemmed upon arrival at the winery. Spontaneous fermentation, without yeast inoculation, took place in a stone lagar with foot-treading for one week. After malolactic fermentation, the wine aged for 6 months in used French oak barrels before being bottled.

Aromas:
A complex aroma marked by a mix of red fruits and balsamic notes. On the palate, the freshness and salinity of the Ramisco perfectly complement the silky texture of the traditional Castelão clones from Vale do Lizandro.

Consumption Suggestions:
This wine can be enjoyed on its own, in good company, or paired with grilled meats or strong-flavored cheeses, elevating any special occasion.

Ramilo Wines

Since 1937, the Ramilo family has been dedicated to wine on the Atlantic coast between Colares and Mafra, once one of Portugal’s most famous wine regions. Four generations later, dissatisfied with the abandonment of local traditions, brothers Pedro and Nuno Ramilo left everything and returned to their origins. They faced blockades, moved stones and mountains, rehabilitated farms, saved old vineyards and replanted new ones. They rescued from oblivion the true vines of Colares and the noble varieties of the region.
