Revista de Vinhos, tasting note published in May 23rd 2023
On the nose, it's deep and intense, with a wild touch, lots of fresh fruit, a balsamic side, and a hint of mushrooms. On the palate, the tannins are firm, the acidity shouts. It's intense, vigorous, and sharp. Ready to drink now. But time will bring many more layers to this great wine.
It is said that great wines are born from difficult conditions. There is not much more challenging than Colares. Dry soils, strong salty winds, humidity, and a heavily overcast climate. At Quinta do Cameijo, own-rooted vines grow close to the ground, sheltered from the heat in the sands of the region. That’s why the work is immense and almost entirely artisanal. But it pays off! Wines that span generations. Fresh, saline, mineral, and with a fascinating complexity. To make this Ramilo Ramisco de Colares, the grapes were handpicked and carefully selected and destemmed upon arrival at the winery. Fermentation took place in a lagar, with foot treading for a week. After malolactic fermentation, the wine aged for 3 years in French oak barrels before being bottled.

Ramilo Wines
Since 1937, the Ramilo family has been dedicated to wine on the Atlantic coast between Colares and Mafra, once one of Portugal’s most famous wine regions. Four generations later, dissatisfied with the abandonment of local traditions, brothers Pedro and Nuno Ramilo left everything and returned to their origins. They faced blockades, moved stones and mountains, rehabilitated farms, saved old vineyards and replanted new ones. They rescued from oblivion the true vines of Colares and the noble varieties of the region.
