O Produtor, tasting note published in May 23rd 2020

Medium colour, complex aroma, marked by balsamic notes. In the mouth it is surprising due to its saline freshness that combines with strong tannin offering the wine some persistence.

Ramilo

It is said that great wines are born from difficult conditions, and few regions are as challenging as Colares. With dry soils, strong salty winds, humidity, and a predominantly cloudy climate, the own-rooted vines at Quinta do Cameijo thrive, sheltered by the warmth of the local sands. This environment demands immense work, almost entirely handcrafted, but the effort is worth it!

The result is wines that endure through generations, with freshness, salinity, minerality, and a fascinating complexity.

To produce this Ramilo Ramisco, the grapes were hand-harvested, carefully selected, and destemmed upon arrival at the winery. Fermentation took place in a lagares, with foot treading for one week. After malolactic fermentation, the wine aged for 3 years in French oak barrels before being bottled.

Ramilo Wines

Since 1937, the Ramilo family has been dedicated to wine on the Atlantic coast between Colares and Mafra, once one of Portugal’s most famous wine regions. Four generations later, dissatisfied with the abandonment of local traditions, brothers Pedro and Nuno Ramilo left everything and returned to their origins. They faced blockades, moved stones and mountains, rehabilitated farms, saved old vineyards and replanted new ones. They rescued from oblivion the true vines of Colares and the noble varieties of the region.
