Quinta Nova
The first single-varietal planting study in the Douro region was carried out at Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo. Between 1979 and 1981, in conjunction with the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture, through the Centro de Estudos Vitivinícolas do Douro (Viticultural Studies Centre), the best solar exposures were chosen at Quinta Nova for a study into the planting of three grape varieties: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacionaland Touriga Franca.
Parcela 29, planted with the Touriga Nacionalgrape variety, is located at an altitude of between 170 and 205 metres. It is a unique example and a fundamental piece in the history of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in its maximum terroir expression. A true reference in the Douro which, together with the centenary vineyard (Parcela 21), results in a wine with a very elegant, almost feminine profile, contrasting with an intense structure of succulent tannins of enormous precision. The schistose texture, high gravity, the sappy profile and the purple colour reflect well the nature of the Touriga Nacionalgrape variety.
A red wine with the oenology of Jorge Alves with a stage of 12 months in French oak barrels.
