Quinta Nova
The first single-varietal planting study in the Douro region was carried out at Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo. Between 1979 and 1981, in conjunction with the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture, through the Centre for Viticultural Studies in the Douro, the best solar exposures were chosen at Quinta Nova for a study into the planting of three varieties: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacionaland Touriga Franca.
Parcel 28 planted with the Tinta Roriz variety, comprising 2,650 vines and a slope of 25%, is located at an altitude of between 205 and 210 metres. This grape variety demonstrates the viticultural challenge and human persistence in preserving an old and authentic Douro. The austerity of the grape variety is noticeable in the mouth, but at the same time, we are seduced
by a somewhat contemporary sophistication that, together with the centenary vineyard (Parcela 21) gives rise to a blend that reveals a reference in the Portuguese Douro a wine full of minerality, blue fruit, rich in spicy notes with a firm structure and a very narrow mouth. The high concentration, density and depth express well its origin.
