O Produtor, tasting note published in May 15th 2019
Intense ruby colour. Fine aroma, with hints of ripe fruit, and a subtle touch of coffee and slight toast. The tannins are full of vigour, guaranteeing a well structured and intense palate and promising longevity in the bottle. Long and fresh finish. Ideal with stewed meat dishes, game or with matured cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C. Ideally open an hour before serving.
We give absolute priority to the treatment of the vineyard to obtain excellent raw material. In the winery, the grapes are selected on the sorting table, totally destemmed and gently crushed. The vinification, done separately by grape variety or by plot, takes place in granite presses with foot treading or in stainless steel vats with strict and individual temperature control, thus adapting the fermentation temperatures to the characteristics of the musts. The highest quality French oak barrels are used for prolonged periods of 12 to 24 months. After bottling, the wines are aged for a further 6 to 12 months in the cellar before being released onto the market.

Aging : 12 months in French oak barrels.

Quinta dos Poços
Ancestral roots in the Minho and Douro Vinhateiro regions gave us the idea, when possible, to move to one of these regions, which happened in 1986. Since then, we have experienced a period of growth in the field, new plantings, modernisation of grape cultivation and must making, construction of a new winery, in short, the creation of wines of excellence. It seems obvious that this is a common and very frequent path. But in our case, it is characterised by simplicity, a sense of mission and a desire to produce well. The feeling we have is that we are doing it and that it is worth continuing, and with the help of many people we have confidence in the future. We are convinced that there are people who have the intelligence, the good taste and above all the heart to understand this work and this passion. Quinta dos Poços is located in the World Heritage area of the Douro region, in the Baixo Corgo area, in the village of Valdigem, municipality of Lamego. It is one of the oldest in the region, and the main house is a typical 18th century rural manor house. It was here that the French troops of Brigadier General Loison, the “one-armed man”, were stationed during Napoleon’s first invasion in 1808.
