O Produtor, tasting note published in May 15th 2023

Quinta dos Castelares Superior Red is a wine with a 'freixenista' character from the Douro Superior.
Aroma of ripe red fruits, spices, violets and rock rose, with elegant notes of vanilla. A very complex and elegant wine, with fine, firm tannins.

Quinta dos Castelares

Origin
The grapes that give rise to this wine are a field blend from the highest old vines at Quinta dos Castelares, in Freixo de Espada à Cinta, in the Douro Superior, at an altitude of between 500-600 metres.
The aim was to achieve the necessary balance for a wine that we want to be full-bodied but with an elegant profile. Schist soils, terraced vineyards with a dominant north-north-east orientation.

Vinification
Manual harvest. Total destemming followed by crushing. The grapes are fermented by variety and by vineyard plot, with the aim of making the selection that will give the best final result.
Fermentation in small stainless steel vats at a temperature of 24ºC. Controlled and gentle maceration with the aim of obtaining concentrated, aromatic and elegant wines.

AGING
6 months in French (2/3) and American (1/3) oak barrels.
