O Produtor, tasting note published in May 15th 2023

Reserva Tinto from Quinta dos Castelares is a wine with a 'freixenista' character from the Douro Superior. It is the result of grapes from low altitude vineyards on the edge of the Douro, with old vines at around 600 metres, from the Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz grape varieties. This combination gave rise to this wine, which stands out for its intense aromas of ripe black fruit. Ageing for 12 months in French and American oak barrels gave it balance and elegance.

Quinta dos Castelares

Explore the essence of Freixen character in this exceptional red wine from Douro Superior, boasting an intense and complex aroma of ripe black fruits, masterfully balanced through 12 months of aging in French and American oak barrels. Crafted from a field blend of old vines on Douro terraces and vineyards from Quinta dos Castelares, situated at elevations between 500-600 meters in Freixo de Espada à Cinta, this wine thrives in schist soils with north-north-east oriented terraced vineyards. The manual harvest, total destemming, and fermentation by grape variety and vineyard plot in small stainless steel vats at 24ºC ensure the highest quality. Experience the magic of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacionalgrapes in this 2020 DOC Douro wine, created by Casa Agrícola Manuel Joaquim Caldeira.
