O Produtor, tasting note published in June 15th 2021

A dark ruby-coloured wine notable for its balsamic, forest, and star anise notes. In the mouth, it is delicate with smooth tannins. Spices and black tea take over your palate, giving way to a long-lasting aftertaste. An iconic Douro.

Quinta do Pessegueiro

The grapes foot-trodden in granite lagares give this wine its dense and concentrated character. It reveals itself as complex, rich in black wild fruits. Still a young wine that justifies cellaring for a longer time. To be consumed from 2026.” – Wine Enthusiast

The year 2019 was characterized by large temperature fluctuations and a lower than usual precipitation, turning it into a dry year. The occurrence of punctual precipitation during the Harvest created a positive impact on the evolution of the maturation. The harvest provided high quality and very aromatic musts, with a general higher acidity than previous years.

Winemaking: Harvest took place in September. The grapes were transported to the winery in 22Kg boxes. They were kept in cold storage for 12h and then they were gravity-driven to the lagar, where completed fermentation took place. Aging was done for 12 months in 225L barrels and 600L casks French and Austrian oak. The wine was bottled in June 2021.

Quinta do Pessegueiro

The wines produced at Quinta do Pessegueiro seduce for their undeniably superior quality, the result of a complete and balanced project whose objective is to value the originality and properties of each small vineyard in the truest possible way. At the head of a group that became, after 50 years, the leader of children’s fashion, Roger Zannier is today also present in several wine regions of the world, such as the Douro region (Portugal) and Provence (France).

In his frequent visits to Portugal as part of his textile activities, Roger Zannier discovers Quinta do Pessegueiro, being literally seduced by the Douro property and region. In 1991, he acquires the land, immediately starting to plant vineyards. Thus was born his first and one of his most important investments in the wine sector.

The property expanded over the years and is now composed of three plots, all located in the Douro region.

As this region is one of the most unlikely where man has ever tried to plant vines, it took the foresight and modesty of a respectful captain of the land, such as João Nicolau de Almeida, to associate ancestral techniques with the most modern methods of oenology and viticulture.
