Quinta do Cardo
The Red Wine from Quinta do Cardo is a DOC Beira Interior wine from altitude and organic.
Made from Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Franca grapes, it was fermented at 24°C, with gentle pumpovers to allow for a fresh varietal profile. Partial aging in French oak barrels.
The organic production method of Quinta do Cardo wines, pioneering in Portugal, allows for the preservation of native fauna and flora, promoting the biodiversity of our agricultural ecosystem, with a strong impact on the final quality of the wines produced here.
In the 1930s, the first wine was produced at Quinta do Cardo, named Branco Maia. In 1988, the first red under the Quinta do Cardo brand was bottled. The brand’s fame skyrocketed, quickly profiling itself among the great Portuguese wines, bringing much prestige and strength to the then unknown Beira Interior.
Red wines from Beira Interior present a very vibrant red color, aroma with notes of red fruits, especially when young, sometimes accompanied by very delicate floral notes. Regarding the body, they are generally very balanced, both in the presence of tannins, fixed acidity, and alcohol content, which gives them a very interesting harmony, although sometimes a prominent fixed acidity is noticed, especially when young. Good mouth persistence and usually reveal a longevity that allows for late consumption, years after vinification.
