Quinta de Ventozelo
At Quinta de Ventozelo, each grape variety tells a story. Touriga Nacional, in this case, needs no introduction. Probably the most well-known Portuguese grape variety, it has found in Ventozelo a place where it can fully express itself. It has body, it has depth, but it’s especially in its immense aromatic richness that the remarkable experience of this wine is defined.
Unlike recent years, 2021 was a cool year in the Douro. Alongside the mild temperatures recorded, it proved to be a dry and productive year. The precipitation during winter, as well as in April and June, compensated for the very dry months of March and May, allowing the normal development of the vine without water being a limiting factor. Diseases appeared sporadically, mainly with the rains in September, without great significance. The long and cool harvest produced equally fresh musts, of good quality, slightly less alcoholic.
Vinification: The grapes were received in the winery, on a special line, with total destemming and manual selection of clusters, and subsequently “berry by berry” by an optical selection machine. Vinification was carried out in lagares, with pre-fermentative maceration and temperature control.
Aging: 12 months of partial aging in French oak barrels.
Particularly pleasant to accompany a meal, as an appetizer, with meat dishes or even on its own, on any occasion.
