Quinta de Ventozelo
A hot and dry wine year. Of particular note was the low rainfall throughout most of the growing season and the high temperatures in May, July and August. The climatic conditions affected the development of diseases (mildew and oidium), resulting in good phytosanitary quality. The continued drought and very high temperatures during the ripening period forced early harvests, which were slowed down by the lower temperatures and rainfall at the beginning of September. These conditions were beneficial for quality, but had little impact on quantity. The result was musts with sugar levels, total acidity and phenolic compounds within the normal range for high quality wines.
Viticulture:
Extreme Syrah vineyard. Two-way cordon trellising, pruned to the heel.
Harvest:
Manual harvest at the beginning of September.
Vinification:
After careful selection of Syrah grapes, vinification was carried out in lagares after a cold pre-fermentation maceration. This wine is bottled in the year following its production, promoting the exuberance and strength of youth in its profile.
