O Produtor, tasting note published in May 27th 2021

Beautiful ruby color. The nose is thin and intense, with notes of ripe, spicy red fruits and toast. In the mouth, it is soft, with ripe fruit well integrated with tannins and very good acidity. Long and persistent ending.

Quinta de Saes

Made with 70% old vines (mixed grape varieties) and 30% Touriga Nacionaland Alfrocheiro. Very fine aroma, complex at the same time, notes of moss and pine alongside very good quality forest fruits. A red wine that excels in balance, with soft tannins, lots of lightness, and freshness.

The vineyards are planted at 500 m altitude in granitic soils with lines of sand and clay.

After careful selection both in the vineyard and in the winery, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, with controlled temperature. It ages for 24 months in second-year Allier oak barrels.

Quinta da Pellada

The first historical references about Quinta da Pellada seem to be around 1570. The Dão wine region was established in 1908, framed by three mountain ranges – Buçaco, Caramulo and Serra da Estrela – and preserve from the Atlantic winds, the region as very special climatic conditions and this producer Alvaro Castro is one of the best Portuguese producers and unquestionable leader in Dão wine region. For the Quinta da Pellada come mainly grapes “field blend” from the old vines, but also the Touriga Nacionaland Tinta Roriz, where it discovers the intense fruit and freshness from the farm grapes that give the name to this wine.
