Quinta da Viçosa
Denomination of Origin: DOC Alentejo
Quinta da Viçosa covers an area of 36 hectares and is located near Estremoz. Currently managed under organic farming practices, this vineyard reflects the vision of winemaker João Portugal Ramos, who planted a variety of national and international grape varieties to annually study the unique behavior of each plot.
Since 2001, in years he considers truly extraordinary, João Portugal Ramos has introduced an exclusive blend to the market, a wine that is different, structured, and elegant, authentically reflecting the terroir it comes from.
Vintage: The year 2020 was marked by a cold winter and a rainy spring. Summer, however, was hot and dry. In the second half of August, some rain helped the vines to complete the grape ripening process. Despite a drop in production due to grape dehydration, the wines from 2020 stand out for their remarkable concentration.
Harvest: Sourced from our oldest vineyards, the grapes are hand-harvested into small boxes to preserve the quality of the fruit.
Vinification: After destemming, the grapes undergo a rigorous manual selection on the sorting table. After crushing, they are foot-trodden in marble lagares using the traditional method. Fermentation is completed in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures.
Aging: The wine ages in new French and Hungarian oak barrels (225L) for 12 months. It was bottled in March 2023.
