O Produtor, tasting note published in May 23rd 2022

Cherry red colour. Complex and intense aroma dominated by red fruits as well as black plum and light floral tones. Notes of dark chocolate and some spices from ageing in French oak barrels. In the mouth it is a full-bodied wine, bringing fresh fruit aromas and well integrated velvety tannins, giving the wine elegance and a pleasant and persistent aftertaste.

Quinta da Foz

For over 100 years of history of the vines where the grapes come from that make this wine with a blend of over 30 different grape varieties, for its intense potential for longevity, for the perfect harmony between its robust structure and silky body, we always seek to ensure that this is a great wine!

Despite its irreverent character, the smoothness of its consistency and the solid profile of its substance give it a huge range of progression and longevity.

The grapes come from one of the oldest plots of our vineyards, with over 100 years old. Fermentation takes place in the historic granite mills (lagares) with the traditional foot-treading process, at controlled temperature. Macerations for 15 days, with skin contact. The aging process takes place for 18 months in carefully selected new French oak barrels to ensure typicality, fruit, and elegance.

Quinta da Foz

The Quinta da Foz
It consists of 22 ha of old vines and olive groves, with an average age of over 80 years, planted in schist soils, with a maximum altitude of 250m.
To ensure the best use of the land and the best sun exposure, the steep slopes of Quinta da Foz, with slopes that exceed 25% in some areas, have been moulded to implant the vines in three different ways: terraces, traditional terraces and vineyards on the hillside.
Over centuries of cultivation with traditional techniques, the Durians have discovered unique ways of planting their vines, by making the rock on the surface of the arable soil. In turn, the schist guarantees and controls the temperature, thus creating the unique microclimate of the Douro for the development of the vine and roots. The total production of the vines is A-rated, which makes the wines produced at Quinta da Foz high quality. More than 30 varieties are planted at Quinta da Foz, the predominant ones being Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. In winemaking, tradition is associated with innovation, using sophisticated techniques combined with foot treading in granite lagares at a controlled temperature. These are all conditions that together make the great wines of Quinta da Foz.
