O Produtor, tasting note published in May 27th 2017

A vibrant ruby color. It presents an aroma of black fruit, with great amplitude and generosity, well complemented by fresh notes of fine and elegant spices. In the mouth, vigor reigns, with well-defined tannins that merge with the fruit over time and enhance the structure and finesse of the whole. Abundant in freshness, this is a vigorous wine with plenty of life ahead.

Quinta da Boavista

This wine constitutes the ‘backbone’ of Quinta da Boavista’s portfolio and results from a blend of grapes from old vines over 80 years old and more recent vineyards. In particular, this Reserve is produced using Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, and old vines.

Touriga Nacionalis a red grape variety that is a key ingredient for both still and fortified wines from the Douro region. It presents bold notes of black fruits, commonly accompanied by hints of spices and violets. Secondly, Touriga Franca is also one of the traditional grape varieties of the Douro region. More aromatic and lighter in structure, slightly less concentrated, Touriga Franca has high tannins and a fresh aroma of ripe red fruits, complemented by floral notes. Tinto Cão, on the other hand, is a variety that dates back to the origins of the region. Over the years, it has been proven that Tinto Cão thrives best in areas of the region less exposed to sunlight. The cooler climate allows the floral aromas of the variety to develop and stand out. Responsible for red wines of lower color intensity, it presents good levels of acidity and tannins.

Winemaking: At Quinta da Boavista, to ensure the preservation of the grape variety’s characteristics and total control of the production process, we resort to manual harvesting and manual selection of clusters, followed by destemming and gentle crushing of the berries. We use traditional granite lagares with foot treading, stainless steel fermentation tanks, and, for small batches, food-grade PVC containers or fermentation in new 500-liter French oak barrels as fermentation vessels. Each of these types of fermentation gives the wine a particular style. Our winemaking philosophy is singular: to delicately extract the best characteristics of our grapes. All wines age 100% in French oak barrels and after aging for a period ranging from 15 to 20 months, we proceed to blend the different lots. All wines are sealed with natural cork. Unfiltered and unstabilized by cold, they may produce sediment with age.

Quinta da Boavista

Quinta da Boavista, one of the most emblematic in the Douro, is a property always associated with the name of the Baron of Forrester, the greatest figure in the history of this wine region in Portugal.
Located near Pinhão, on the right bank of the Douro, and with a unique view over the river, this icon of the Douro Demarcated Region is known mainly for its quality vineyards, some of which are almost 100 years old, planted in terraces and schist terraces that hard work many men built. In this property, the memory of time is preserved and maintained with rigor, which makes Quinta da Boavista an ex-libris of natural beauty from the Douro and an exceptional terroir for the production of high quality wines.
