O Produtor, tasting note published in May 27th 2020

Full colour with a vibrant fruit aroma, fresh and elegant with notes of wild berries and redcurrant. Well chiselled and polished in the mouth, it has a pronounced structure and good volume, with some very well integrated wood notes. It is an engaging wine, full, but at the same time with a remarkable freshness and purity of fruit, which give it a charm of its own.

Harvest Year: After a cold and dry winter, the spring was very warm, with five heat waves and heavy rains that compensated for the lack of water in the soil, allowing the vines and grapes to develop well.
After a hot start and glorious sunshine, excellent for ripening, the harvest was interrupted by rains in September when about one third of our production was already harvested. Given the very favourable weather forecasts, after a few days interruption, harvest resumed on 24th September with excellent weather conditions and grapes in excellent health, improving day by day, allowing us to pick our best plots at the best time. During this period we produced wines of exceptional quality. Picking started on the 3rd October in our Petit Verdot plots.
Aging: 14 months in 225 litre French oak barrels 30% new barrels.
Vinification: The wine was vinified in temperature controlled conical-truncated vats at a temperature of around 25º/28º.

Quinta da Romaneira

Romaneira is one of the great historic Quintas of the Douro Valley in Northern Portugal, on a spectacularly beautiful site overlooking the Douro river facing south, its rocky soil lending its particular character to the wines.

Recently a new and exciting chapter has been added to Romaneira’s long and illustrious story, with the emergence of Romaneira as a key player in the “Douro Revolution”: the discovery that our ancient local grape varieties can be used to make not only excellent Port wines, but increasingly also outstanding unfortified wines that are finding their place among the great wines of the world, while being an expression of our unique terroir.

We are proud of the work of our team, who, building on the experience they gained working on the renaissance of nearby Quinta do Noval, have made major improvements to the Romaneira vineyard over time.

We hope this website helps you share our excitement about Romaneira; read on to find out more about our vision for Romaneira, our wines, history, our terroir and vineyard, and the people who make these wines.
