O Produtor, tasting note published in February 14th 2018

A wine of great depth and complexity. It features a deep, intense color, with aromatic notes of dark fruits such as plums and black cherries, combined with hints of spices, dark chocolate, and a touch of oak. On the palate, it is robust and powerful, with well-structured tannins and a long, persistent finish. The oak and spice notes continue to evolve over time, providing a rich and harmonious profile.

Penfolds

Grange is memorable for its aromatic complexity, intensely rich fruit, mature Shiraz tannins, and American oak nuances. Partial barrel fermentation and 18 months of maturation in oak enhance these qualities, while additional bottle aging allows the wine to evolve, with tannins softening and complexity increasing. With an unbroken line of vintages since 1951, this iconic red wine demonstrates the synergy between Shiraz and the soils and climates of South Australia, fulfilling Max Schubert’s dream of producing a wine “capable of lasting a minimum of twenty years.”

Made from fully ripe, intensely aromatic, and structured Shiraz grapes, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, Penfolds Grange is a unique style of Australian Shiraz, now recognized as one of the most consistent among the world’s great red wines.

Maturation: 18 months in American oak barrels (100% new).

Penfolds

Despite great success, Penfolds never rests on its laurels. In 2012 Penfolds released its most innovative project to date – 12 handcrafted ampoules of the rare 2004 Kalimna Block Cabernet Sauvignon.

Two years later, Penfolds celebrated the 170th anniversary – having just picked up a perfect score of 100 for the 2008 Grange in two of the world’s most influential wine magazines. Today, Penfolds continues to hold dear the philosophies and legends – ‘1844 to evermore!’.
