O Produtor, tasting note published in July 14th 2021
The colour is concentrated with hints of violet.
In the nose it reveals the complexity of the Douro old vines, where graphite notes, wild berries, herbs and spices dominate.
In the mouth it is young, structured and with good acidity.
It finishes long and spicy, demonstrating balance and precision.
The 2018 viticultural year was considered a cool year, albeit with quite a bit of temperature variation. July was the coolest in the history of the 21st century followed by the beginning of August with very high temperatures, the 4th of August being the hottest day of the 21st century (to date). At the end of July the vines were about 3 weeks behind the 2017 year, and from the beginning of August there was a very slow maturation due to the stress of the heat waves and the scalding of the vines.
Precisely due to this water stress, the plants originated musts with low alcohol content and an excellent phenolic maturation, originating wines with a lot of complexity and lightness.
The harvest of Pata D’urso 2018 took place in mid-September, in 20 kg boxes, and after a careful selection at the selection table the grapes were destemmed to a stainless steel vat, where they fermented and macerated at a controlled temperature for 2 weeks.
After the alcoholic fermentation was finished, the grapes were pressed and the wine went directly to used French oak barrels, where it did the malolactic fermentation and aged for 24 months.
The wine was then aged in a stainless steel vat with subsequent bottle ageing for 12 months.

Quinta da Furada
Furada is a farm that has belonged to the same family for at least seven generations. The present descendants are the trinkets of its heir Valério Augusto de Sousa, who saw his first son born in the house, in 1919, still inhabited today. Born in 1888, he often said that his wife had inherited from his grandparents the present houses with vineyards and olive groves surrounding them, but to which, and by the will of Phylloxera, he added another 24 sorts, by buying from 24 small neighboring landowners, then disappointed with the effects of this almost fatal disease for the Douro.
Thus enlarging Quinta da Furada which has since remained one, keeping secrets, stories, flavours and mysteries. Proof of the search for the unveiling of the secrets of this farm, and what ended up giving it its name, were the holes found in the property that denote the search for wolfram, still from Roman times.
