O Produtor, tasting note published in May 27th 2019
Pata D'Urso 2017 is a complex wine that clearly shows the Terroir Duriense in a hot year. Young and balanced, on the nose with notes of red fruits and some spice, in the mouth the wood is well integrated in the wine, making it elegant and delicate, with good volume and an excellent acidity that makes the end of the mouth quite persistent.
The harvest took place on 21, 22 and 23 August with grapes from Quinta da Furada in Ervedosa do Douro. The grapes showed great quality and sanity, very hard and crunchy skins, with ripe seeds. The fact of harvesting early allowed us to obtain grapes with a balanced natural acidity to produce fresh, elegant and precise wines.

Quinta da Furada
Furada is a farm that has belonged to the same family for at least seven generations. The present descendants are the trinkets of its heir Valério Augusto de Sousa, who saw his first son born in the house, in 1919, still inhabited today. Born in 1888, he often said that his wife had inherited from his grandparents the present houses with vineyards and olive groves surrounding them, but to which, and by the will of Phylloxera, he added another 24 sorts, by buying from 24 small neighboring landowners, then disappointed with the effects of this almost fatal disease for the Douro.
Thus enlarging Quinta da Furada which has since remained one, keeping secrets, stories, flavours and mysteries. Proof of the search for the unveiling of the secrets of this farm, and what ended up giving it its name, were the holes found in the property that denote the search for wolfram, still from Roman times.
