João Guedes, tasting note published in October 25th 2021
Open ruby colour with a cherry hue, aromas of small red berries, woods and fresh notes of eucalyptus, hints of toast. The palate is elegant, with excellent freshness, well-calibrated acidity and lively but elegant tannins. Finishes fresh, harmonious and with excellent balance.
Pinot Noir grapes harvested from the 1.49 hectare ‘Vinha Celestina’ located at Quinta do Porto Nogueira, a terroir in the Lisbon region. The vineyard is cultivated using sustainable practices and production is certified by the ‘Integrated Production Standards’. When it comes to soil maintenance, special attention is paid to combating erosion and increasing the organic matter content, which is why we favour the non-mobilisation of the soil and the application of natural manure.

Casa Romana Vini
In the lands that today constitute Quinta do Porto Nogueira and Quinta da Escusa, the family began to plant vineyards, privileging the terroirs once occupied by old vines, always with the objective of producing exceptional grapes and making unique wines, originated in Quinta Nogueira , Quinta da Escusa and Quinta da Página. Quinta do Porto Nogueira is located in Alguber, in the municipality of Cadaval, about 70 km west of Lisbon. In the first half of the eighteenth century, it was always owned by the same family and was donated to the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon, around 1980. Since 2004 it is a Romana Vini estate. Quinta da Escusa is located in Senhora da Escusa, in the municipality of Rio Maior, about 70 km northeast of Lisbon, between the villages of Quintas and Vale Barco. Part of the Quinta da Escusa estate belonged to the grandparents and parents of the current owners who, over the decades, exercised agriculture and viticulture. The secular house of Quinta do Porto Nogueira is set against the Roman Bridge over the Arnóia river, which would be the passage of the Roman road that linked Collippo (near Leiria) to Eburobrittium (Óbidos) and that followed to Olisipo (Lisbon). The bridge is testimony to the presence of the Romans in the region and inspired the name Romana Vini, Family Winery.
