O Produtor, tasting note published in July 15th 2021
The Quinta da Lomba Garrafeira Red 2016 is characterized by its elegance, complexity, and structure. The color is vibrant, with some concentration, revealing violet hues when swirled in the glass. The nose has delicate notes of blackberry and red fruits, along with floral nuances of aromatic herbs and balsam. Notes of tobacco and balsam reveal its slightly rustic character. On the palate, it is delicate and complex, with a very elegant structure and light tannins. The characteristic acidity of the region manifests in the persistence and balance in the finish
The Quinta da Lomba Red 2016 carries within it the full potential of Dão grape varieties and clearly expresses the excellence of its century-old vines. In the first tasting, it was defined as a special wine. It aged for 4 years in 2500-liter old wooden casks and one year in the bottle, resulting in a Garrafeira Dão. Details on the label reveal the cover crops present in each of the vineyards, identifiable only because no herbicides are used.
The viticultural year 2016 was marked by a mild winter but with very high precipitation levels in spring, extending into early summer without causing any damage to the vines. Harvest began only on September 12, late due to the delayed grape ripening. Harvesting without precipitation allowed for improved grape concentration and health. Vinification took place in lagares, where we obtained an elegant wine. After aging for 4 years in 2500-liter old oak barrels, it was bottled without filtration.
It pairs wonderfully with roast lamb.

Niepoort Vinhos
The Niepoort family has been creating Port Wines since 1842. The first property in Douro was bought in 1987 and Dirk Niepoort started a new Era in the company with the creation of the first Redoma red in 1991. In the last years Niepoort took on the great challenge of interpreting other soils and climates and acquired two properties in other regions, Dão and Bairrada. Discover the Niepoort Triangle which express the different terroirs: Schist (Douro), Limestone (Bairrada) and Granite (Dão).
