O Produtor, tasting note published in December 6th 2017
Color: Deep Red.
Nose: Blackberries, vegetal notes, balsamic, wood, and cereals.
Palate: Complex with blackberry aromas, pencil shavings, balsamic notes in a firm and full-bodied structure.
In a mild, mountainous continental climate with hot and dry summers, from old vines with a 100% blend of traditional grape varieties, planted in shale soil, comes this Monte Cascas Vinha das Lameiras.
The harvest took place in September and was done manually.
Vinification and aging: The grapes are partially destemmed (30%) and crushed directly into a lagar. Three days of cold maceration; 12 days of alcoholic fermentation with temperature control; gentle foot treading twice a day; malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels. Aging for 24 months in French oak barrels.
Pairs very well with Iberian ham, aged cheese (S. Jorge 24 months), game stew, and sausages.
