Monte Bluna
Monte Bluna Tinta Miúda is a rare and simple red wine: rare due to the grape variety that gives it its name and the perfect terroir from which it originates, as it was born in Portugal; simple because what is innate is simple when subjected to minimal, balanced, and always thoughtful intervention, respecting the producer’s maxim “from an ancestral land, the best wine, when nature desires it.”
Vinification and aging: Monte Bluna Tinta Miúda 2020 is a single-varietal wine. The grapes were hand-harvested, carefully selected in small 20 kg boxes. In the cellar, after another manual qualitative sorting, the grapes were fully destemmed and gently crushed. A short pre-fermentation maceration took place, with fermentation occurring in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 20°C. During this period, variable duration and interval pump-overs were performed. The malolactic fermentation, finishing, is done in used French oak barrels. It matured in these same barrels for 9 months. Then, it underwent 12 months of maturation in stainless steel tanks for sensory refinement and increased complexity. To preserve its quality, Monte Bluna Tinta Miúda 2020 was bottled without treatment, allowing for the natural formation of sediment. Bottling took place on June 9, 2022, and it began its commercialization in 2023.
Cellaring: Although it can be consumed now, it has the qualities to positively evolve in the bottle for several years, provided it is stored properly.
