O Produtor, tasting note published in July 10th 2022

The Monte Bluna Tinta Miúda 2020 boasts a vibrant purple colour; it stands out for its elegance and character from start to finish. Disruptive due to its unusual precision and freshness, yet complex and distinctive. On the nose, it is captivating and charming with aromas of wild berries, violets, nuances of grapevine shoots, hints of cocoa, and earthy undertones. It evolves into pleasant balsamic notes, against a backdrop of limestone minerality. In the mouth, it is broad, with energetic and vibrant fruit, indulgent, somewhat irreverent, featuring captivating freshness and structure, fine-grained, intense, and firm tannins. The finish is long, persistent, and even perplexing.

Monte Bluna

Monte Bluna Tinta Miúda is a rare and simple red wine: rare due to the grape variety that gives it its name and the perfect terroir from which it originates, as it was born in Portugal; simple because what is innate is simple when subjected to minimal, balanced, and always thoughtful intervention, respecting the producer’s maxim “from an ancestral land, the best wine, when nature desires it.”
Vinification and aging: Monte Bluna Tinta Miúda 2020 is a single-varietal wine. The grapes were hand-harvested, carefully selected in small 20 kg boxes. In the cellar, after another manual qualitative sorting, the grapes were fully destemmed and gently crushed. A short pre-fermentation maceration took place, with fermentation occurring in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 20°C. During this period, variable duration and interval pump-overs were performed. The malolactic fermentation, finishing, is done in used French oak barrels. It matured in these same barrels for 9 months. Then, it underwent 12 months of maturation in stainless steel tanks for sensory refinement and increased complexity. To preserve its quality, Monte Bluna Tinta Miúda 2020 was bottled without treatment, allowing for the natural formation of sediment. Bottling took place on June 9, 2022, and it began its commercialization in 2023.

Cellaring: Although it can be consumed now, it has the qualities to positively evolve in the bottle for several years, provided it is stored properly.

Monte Bluna

Monte Bluna is a boutique wine producer located in Arruda dos Vinhos, a significant municipality in wine production. Arruda has established its presence in the world of wines early on, earning the ultimate epitaph “of the Wines” due to its exceptional quality. With grapes sourced from their own vineyards, to which they give expression, balance, time, and voice, Monte Bluna produces four exclusive brands, all in limited editions and numbered bottles:
1. Bluníssima, a wine from special vineyards only released in the best years;
2. Tictac, wines made from international grape varieties with labels made of wood;
3. Monte Bluna Reserva, wines blended from the best house grapes each year;
4. Monte Bluna Castas Raras, gastronomic wines with low alcohol content and nearly extinct native grape varieties.
Everything is done in harmony with the environment, resulting in a continuous tribute to the true stars, the grapes. Each case is unique, and it’s up to the artisans to decide the best outcome, as nothing is pre-programmed; it all depends on the whims of time and nature. Materials, creativity, and audacity add the finishing touches to the sensory experience they aim to promote.
Without the use of herbicides or other harmful chemicals, with native yeasts and minimal intervention. Simple, yet complex. From an ancestral land, the finest wine, when nature wills it—this is the commitment of Monte Bluna wines.
