O Produtor, tasting note published in May 27th 2022

On the nose reveals an intense aromatic bouquet, where aromas of ripe red fruits, such as cherry, and herbaceous notes stand out. A balanced red wine, with good acidity and velvety tannins.

Marqués de Murrieta

It is a red reserve wine with a balanced aging of two years in new and partly new American oak barrels and a year and a half in the bottle. The result is an elegant wine that combines complexity and fineness, summing up the best attributes of our identity and actuality. Marqués de Murrieta is more than a brand in the international market, it represents age-old wisdom expressed in one of the most recognized wines of Spain. With our daily work, respect and love for our land, the selection of the best grapes and the attention to detail throughout its almost four years of production, Marqués de Murrieta is a safe and constant value of the best quality. Own vineyards: Grapes are sourced from our Ygay Estate: 300 hectares of vineyards surrounding the winery in the southernmost point of Rioja Alta. Altitude ranges from 320 to 485 meters above sea level. Grape varieties: 83% Tempranillo, 9% Graciano, 5% Mazuelo, 3% Garnacha. Manual Harvest: October, 10th to 26th. Winemaking: Grapes are first de-stemmed and then fermented in stainless Steel tanks for 8 days at a controlled temperature in constant skin contact. During fermentation pumping over and punching down operations are regularly carried out. These processes ensure both effective and gentle color and aroma extraction. Afterwards, the solid parts of the grapes were pressed in vertical presses with double screws. Aging process: The wine is aged for 16 months in 225 litre American oak barrels.

Marqués de Murrieta

Marqués de Murrieta´s foundation is linked to the origins of the Rioja wines since Luciano Murrieta produced in 1852 the first Rioja wine and was also the first one to export his wines. Luciano, appointed Marquis by the King Amadeo of Savoy thanks to his work in Rioja, travelled to Bordeaux to learn the winemaking techniques that he introduced later in Spain. He established the concept of “château” in the Ygay Estate where he built the emblematic Ygay Castle. In 1983 Vicente Cebrián Sagarriga, tenth Count of Creixell, took over the project. He modernized the winery and with his entrepreneurial vocation he continued the legacy of Marqués de Murrieta. After his death his eldest son, Vicente D. Cebrián-Sagarriga, current Count of Creixell, assumed together with his sister Cristina the management of the winery, accompanied by a young and qualified team. Over the years, the Count of Creixell´s family has become the perfect continuity to maintain the balance between tradition and modernity positioning Marqués de Murrieta in the 21st century in a privileged position in the world.
