Marquês de Borba
One of João Portugal Ramos’s most emblematic brands, Marquês de Borba combines the tradition of Alentejo with immense quality, present since the brand’s first harvest in 1997. The name comes from the fortunate coincidence of João Portugal Ramos’s vineyards and winery being located in the Borba sub-region, and from an uncle holding the noble title of Marquess of Borba, a title created in 1811.
As the name suggests, Vinhas Velhas (Old Vines) is a wine from the oldest vines of the group, aged 36 years, planted at an altitude of 300 to 450 meters on clay-limestone, schistous soils.
Harvest: Grapes are harvested manually in small 15 kg crates to preserve fruit quality.
Vinification: Grapes are destemmed and carefully hand-selected on the sorting table. After crushing, they are foot-trodden in marble lagares for 4 to 5 days, then transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation is completed.
Aging: 12 months in American and French oak barrels.
Bottling: December 21, 2022.
