O Produtor, tasting note published in July 14th 2020

Color: Deep red with indigo reflections.
Aroma: Very intense and powerful, yet fresh. Chemical and balsamic notes balance with aromas of forest fruits, such as blueberry and blackberry, and wood of excellent quality, perfectly integrated.
Palate: Extraordinarily elegant, with great volume, freshness, and excellent balance.
Finish: The finish is exceptionally long, with the return of floral notes and forest fruits.

Lua Cheia em Vinhas Velhas

Region: D.O.C. Douro
Located in the northeast of Portugal, in the Douro river basin, the region is surrounded by mountains that provide unique mesological and climatic characteristics. It spans an area of about 250,000 ha and is divided into three naturally distinct sub-regions.

Soil: Schist

Climate: Hot and dry, with large thermal amplitudes.

Winemaking:
The winemaking process began with the destemming and crushing of the grapes, followed by a 12-hour pre-fermentation maceration at 34ºC to maximize the action of endogenous enzymes. Selected yeasts were used, and the alcoholic fermentation lasted a minimum of 10 days, with temperature control between 22ºC and 24ºC.

Aging:
The wine aged for 12 months in oak barrels. After bottling, it underwent an unusual aging at sea aboard the Pascoal Atlântico ship for 135 days.

Food pairing:
Ideal for dishes with elaborated and sophisticated meats, as well as intense cheeses.

Analytical parameters:
Acidity: 5.2 g/L | Residual sugar: <0.6 g/L | pH: 3.68.

Lua Cheia Em Vinhas Velhas

The Full Moon project in Vinhas Velhas is the result of the passionate connection that its 3 founders – João Silva e Sousa, Francisco Baptista and Manuel Dias – have maintained with the Douro for over two decades. After so many years of being surprised by this unique wine-growing region, in 2009 it was time to show how they saw Douro wines. The company’s history begins that year with Murça white wines – an area forgotten by progress, but which produces unique wines full of identity.
