Kopke
C.N. Kopke is the oldest Port wine company. It was founded in 1638 by Cristiano Kopke and his son, Nicolau Kopke, who had come to Portugal as Consul of the Hanseatic League. With 4 centuries of success in the world of Port wines, the Kopke brand, acquired in 2006 by the Sogevinus group, is now a prestigious reference, maintaining the quality objectives that have guided it in the market over the years, especially recognized in Colheita Ports, with high notoriety in the sector.
A new Douro underscored by history. For many years, at Quinta de São Luiz, tradition dictated that the walls be painted white. Authentic pieces of history that support vines and the wisdom of several generations. To honor this terroir of excellence, Kopke revives the tradition of painting the walls and now signs its Douro DOC wines as São Luiz.
It is the heritage of the past combined with the innovation of the present that gives these wines a unique character.
Vinification and aging: Harvest in the second week of September, with entirely manual harvesting in small-volume boxes. Vinification was carried out with total destemming and crushing. Alcoholic fermentation lasted for 12 days in stainless steel tanks, followed by skin maceration for 12 days. Part of the malolactic fermentation was done in barrels. It aged for 14 months in new and second-year barrels of French oak, each with a volume of 225 liters.
