João Póvoa began producing branded wines in 1991 with Quinta de Baixo, becoming the first individual reference producer in the municipality of Cantanhede.
Since 2005, the company has been called Kompassus and maintains a philosophy of wine production based on family roots and traditions. It is dedicated to producing wines of excellence, with winemaking methods and viticulture practices that involve minimal intervention. The company is owned by João Póvoa, an ophthalmologist by profession and a farmer by passion. Since the age of 8, João has been involved with the terroir of Bairrada, falling in love with the Baga grape variety, which became the base for his red wines and sparkling wines. A large part of the grapes still comes from old vines over 70 years old.
With 30 years of dedication to branded wine production, João Póvoa has built a solid reputation over the years. His family had already been producing wine in the Bairrada region, and it was with his mother and father that João learned the first secrets of the region, developing a passion that has accompanied him throughout his life. Today, his wines are recognized for their finesse, refinement, and depth, having earned distinctions and recognition since 1991.
