Kerin O'Keefe, tasting note published in May 5th 2020
Perfumed and loaded with finesse, this fragrant red features seductive aromas of woodland berries, pine forest, violet, undergrowth and a whiff of sandalwood. Elegantly structured, it is elegantly ethereal, delivering juicy red cherry, strawberry, black tea, liquorice and a pronounced mineral note that evokes rusty iron alongside well knitted, refined tannins. It's surprisingly vibrant for the warm vintage and still young and austere, but that's a good thing as it shows great ageing potential.
Il Marroneto is located just north of the town of Montalcino. Owner Alessandro Mori explains that the soil here is predominantly sea sand with micro-minerals from the coast, giving a floral rather than fruity expression. He uses botti (large oak casks) for ageing only, with some dating back to the 1970s – although it must be said that the cellar here is fanatically clean.

Il Marroneto
Today, Il Marroneto, after more than 30 years is considered as one of the ten historical companies of Montalcino (Siena), among the most famous, important and well known inside and outside our territory. All this has been possible thanks to the long-term commitment and passion that Mori has always dedicated to his work. Il Marroneto the Brunello is a traditional wine, aged in large oak barrels from Allier and Slovenia, vinified according to the traditional systems of Montalcino; the result is a very elegant wine, rich in aromas, classic, suitable for meditation. A wine that arouses strong emotions, like the great love and care with which it was created.
