O Produtor, tasting note published in May 15th 2023

With a complex aroma of ripe wild fruits and forest floor, accompanied by multidimensional balsamic notes. The palate is deep and textured, all in an expressive balance that benefits from being enjoyed with time. Eminently gastronomic, with a long and complex finish.

Herdade do Gamito

From the North Alentejo terroir, the wines of Herdade do Gamito are born, highly committed to expressing the granite and slopes where they originated.

Winemaking: After conducting ripening studies to determine the best harvest date for each plot, different grape varieties are manually harvested and transported to the winery. After selection, the grapes are destemmed and sent to fermentation tanks where, in the first phase, pre-fermentation maceration takes place for about 48 hours at a controlled temperature. After this phase, inoculation with selected yeasts takes place. During alcoholic fermentation, maceration and extraction operations – pumping over, aerations, and délestage – are carried out to achieve the desired extraction level for each wine profile.

Aging: Aging on fine lees, 100% in used barrels, for a minimum of 12 months.

Herdade do Gamito

Herdade do Gamito is located in Nordeste Alentejo, 4 kilometres from Crato, the historical town that was the headquarters of the Order of Malta in Portugal. With 27 hectares of vineyard, it is owned by the descendants of an old traditional family, with centuries-old roots in the region.
Stories and characters from this golden past inhabited the imagination of Gonçalo Sá da Bandeira, who as a child dreamt of recovering his ancestral lands to live on. A desire, which allied to his love for the land and passion for wine, led him to buy from his father a small plot of land, which remained of the family’s agricultural heritage.
It was with a lot of work, persistence and the help of his wife and friends that he expanded the boundaries of his property and started making wine. First in an artisanal way, later adapting tradition to the demands of modern oenology.
The Herdade do Gamito wines were born from the will of a boy who became a man but never stopped dreaming. Dreams that we share through wines produced with soul and a deeply felt passion.
