Garrafeira Benfica
The red wine SLB 92 is born from the hands of winemaker Carlos Lucas, a man from the Dão region, deeply rooted in his origins. A man of the land, a modern farmer, he has a career of over 25 years in winemaking: Montpellier, Piemonte, Priorat, and Vale de S. Francisco are some of the places where he has left his mark, being distinguished as “Winemaker of the Year” by Revista dos Vinhos in 2008. Carlos Lucas keeps his nose in the wines and his hands in the vineyard, producing quality wines with a team of people with a continuous interest in innovation and dynamism, never disconnecting from tradition and history.
The vineyards, with more than 20 years old, are planted in soils of granitic origin with large outcrops of schist, at an altitude ranging from 400-600m. The climate is influenced by the Dão and Mondego rivers and has hot, dry summers and cold winters.
Vinification: Manual harvesting. Total destemming. 24-hour maceration at low temperature before starting alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Gentle pump-overs for color and aroma extraction. Transfer to used French oak barrels of 225 L for 12 months.
