O Produtor, tasting note published in September 27th 2019

With an intense ruby color, it presents lively notes of ripe black and red fruit on the nose, well integrated with barrel notes. On the palate, it inherits the character of various top-tier wines from which it originates, while being a powerhouse of structure and perfectly ripe fruit, combined with an earthy, slightly vegetal side, and a striking freshness and acidity that make it one of the most enjoyable wines to taste from Quinta do Mouro’s portfolio.

Erro 4

The Erros from Quinta do Mouro are an out-of-the-box collection, the result of rejecting absolute truths in the cellar, or a set of provocations by producer and winemaker Miguel Louro, based on wines that, for various reasons, ended up being the product of chance, improvisation, or clever twists after mishaps along the way.

And from barrels forgotten or ostracized, intended for three top-tier wines, a new Erro is born, after a few years of good behavior… Jovial, powerful, fresh, acidic, rebellious, and classic, all in contradiction and harmony, making it one of the most fun and delicious wines from Quinta do Mouro.

Climate: Vineyards in Estremoz, at 450 m altitude, influenced by a continental Mediterranean climate, with a large temperature range during the ripening period.
Soils: Schist and Limestone.

Vinification and aging: Manual harvest into 20 kg boxes. After total destemming, the grapes are foot-trodden in lagar for three days with pre-fermentation cold maceration. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 24-26ºC, followed by pressing in wooden baskets using a vertical hydraulic press. Being a new blend created from other blends originally destined for different wines, which were forgotten or unused, the average aging lasted 20-24 months in new and used French and Portuguese oak barrels.

Chemical analysis: Alcohol 14% | pH 3.32 | Total Acidity 6.8 g/L | Residual Sugar 0.8 g/L

Quinta do Mouro

Quinta do Mouro is located at the gates of the city of Estremoz, and belonged for centuries to the Zagalos family, one of the most wealthy in the city. This original “farmhouse” in Alentejo, where the vast lands dominate, has a palatial house from the 16th century. In 1979, when he was only 26 years old, fortune dictated the fate of Miguel Louro at a poker table, among friends, when he had the dilemma of buying a Porsche or Quinta do Mouro. The first acres of vineyards would be planted in 1989, following a failed incursion into cattle ranching, being today one of the region’s most iconic wine producers.
