Jeb Dunnuck, tasting note published in August 5th 2020

I was also able to taste the 2016 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Da Capo, which comes mainly from older lieu-dit vines from La Crau and spends an additional year in a large foudre. The 2016 vintage was truly magical for the region, and this Cuvée Da Capo is unquestionably one of the best vintages ever made for this cuvée, in the same league as, if not surpassed, those of 1998, 2003, 2007, and 2010. Sensational notes of cured meats, crème de cassis, crushed violets, ground pepper, tapenade, truffle, and sweet Provence herbs all fly out of the glass and hit the palate with a massive, full-bodied style that remains seamless, weightless, and as pure as they come. The traditional, classic Châteauneuf Du Pape doesn't get any better. I hate to be the guy who throws out the "best to date" line too often, but this is truly magical.

Domaine du Pegau

A rare pearl of the Domaine du Pegau, it is only during the beautiful years with the colours of the great vintages that the Cuvée Da Capo shows itself. A selection of lots from Crau, this cuvée is a traditional blend of the 13 Châteauneuf du Pape grape varieties, with a majority of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, expressing the generosity and character of the centuries-old vines planted in a siliceous sandy soil. Produced 7 times, this special cuvée is a worldwide success.

Domaine du Pegau

Since 1670 our ancestors, then great-grandparents and grandparents extended the Domaine FERAUD grounds to 22 hectares. Elvire, married to Léon Feraud, was a winemaker and mother of four children.

Paul, the youngest, had been cultivating the family vineyard since he was 14 years old and then, in 1964, decided to produce his own wine and market 2,000 bottles a year. After studying wine and spirits, followed by business school, Laurence, daughter of Paul & Odette, returned to Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1987. She proposed to her parents to create an independent family estate of 5ha and registered the name Pegau.

The Pegau is a wine jug used in the 14th century during the papal period.
