O Produtor, tasting note published in May 23rd 2021
The nose of this wine is bold and fresh with aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and toasted cinnamon. The palate is pleasantly generous, creamy with sweet, fine tannins with excellent volume. Persistent finish marked by fruit. A very pleasant wine for informal drinking.
Origin of the grapes The grapes come from our own vineyards and from vineyards we exploit in the Cima Corgo region.
Vinification The grapes are harvested by hand and transported in 25kg boxes, selected, destemmed and crushed at the entrance to the winery. This is followed by a fermentation process at controlled temperature. After alcoholic fermentation, natural malolactic fermentation follows, keeping the wine at around 20ºC.
Ageing About 30% of the blend is aged for 6 months in French and American oak barrels.
Located in the Alijó Valley, Quinta de Cottas is a 10 ha property that enjoys the conditions of excellence for the production of Douro and Port wines.
In 2006, Isabel and Pedro Carmo were attracted by a vineyard that once belonged to a large and important quinta. Their great love for wine and the Douro valley made it impossible for them not to take the opportunity to produce their own wines in this unique region giving rise to this wine project. They quickly started the reconversion of the property, recovering the existing old vineyard plot and planting the remaining available area. From the very beginning they defined that the approach at Quinta de Cottas would be to capture the essence of the Douro’s main grape varieties, producing high quality wines with a distinct personality that expressed their unique terroir.
