O Produtor, tasting note published in March 20th 2019

This wine displays an intense ruby red colour. Its aroma is complex, with notes of red fruits, some floral undertones, and hints of orange peel, all enveloped by subtle smoky notes originating from ageing in oak barrels for about 6 months. The tasting experience is captivating, revealing a high balance between structure, acidity, and alcohol. It unfolds as enveloping, silky, and persistent, with the fresh character typical of the Touriga Nacionalgrape variety.

Conde de Mértola

The Frederick Von S. exhibits a luxurious blend of flavours, becoming a true delight for the senses. With its rich and velvety profile, each sip is a journey through layers of complexity, creating a harmonious symphony of flavours that lingers even after the glass is empty.
Crafted in accordance with organic farming standards, no synthetic chemical fertilisers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or other chemical agents are used. Weeding is a manual process, and the vines are fertilised annually through the planting of certain types of local plants that replenish the ideal nitrogen level in the soil.
The characteristics of both the soil and subsoil, the Mediterranean climate, the complexity of the waters, and the irrigation method are ideal for the noble Trincadeira and Aragonês varieties, resulting in grapes with unusual characteristics and quality.
The grapes are harvested manually, sorted in the field, and transported in boxes limited to 15 kg to avoid crushing during transportation. Upon reaching the winery, the grapes are once again sorted and pressed. Vinification involves gentle pressing and post-fermentative maceration, in accordance with organic production techniques. The entire fermentation process is controlled through regular laboratory tests.
The combination of high-quality organic farming and advanced winemaking technology results in an exceptional organic wine. Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with hearty dishes (oven-baked meat dishes, cheeses, and fine charcuterie), this red wine is for those seeking a sophisticated tasting experience.

Monte F. Assis

Francisco de Assis Costa returned to the Monte de Santo António inherited from his father to transform it into a small organic and biodynamic agricultural paradise.
Nestled in the heart of the Guadiana National Park, this vineyard estate is a true oasis of natural beauty and abundance. In a region rich in natural resources, the vines thrive under the sun’s rays in fertile soil, irrigated by the Guadiana River.
This idyllic setting, free from pollution, creates the perfect terroir for producing exceptional wines that reflect the essence of the land. The small 3-hectare vineyard is planted in shale soils, and its tiny production pays homage to the local hero Friedrich Von Schönberg, the first Earl of Mértola.
Just as a seasoned general strategically commands troops on the battlefield, a good wine orchestrates a symphony of flavours on the palate. Both possess an inherent complexity that unfolds with time and experience. The wine’s initial attack on the senses can be compared to a general’s opening move in a campaign, setting the stage for what’s to come.
The style of the wines is noble, incredibly fresh, savoury, and mineral, with great ageing potential. A true gem.
