Jeb Dunnuck, tasting note published in January 12th 2021
Another perfect wine, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon IX Estate is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with 14% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, all from the estate on Pritchard Hill. A monster of a wine that needs to be aged in bottle, it reveals a dense purple hue as well as a bouquet of pure crème de cassis, charcoal, spring flowers, tobacco and earth. Simply incredible on the palate, it is full-bodied and perfectly balanced, with remarkable purity and a finish that doesn't let up. Cabernet - or red wine, for that matter - doesn't get any better! It needs a solid 5-7 years of bottle age, but this legendary wine will see out its 50th anniversary in good shape.
Our “IX Estate Proprietary “is a powerful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
The “IX Estate” is a wine of great power, with aromas of dark fruits, savoury herbs and spices. First produced in 2002, “IX Estate”can be enjoyed in youth and ages gracefully for years to come. The wines of this vintage are classic and pure, with a spectrum of flavour and are aromatically pixelated. They display an intellectual character that exhibits distinct moods with time in the glass. Unlike some vintages, the 2018s transform from savoury aromatics to deeply fruity aromatics rather than the other way around. As they open up, their well-defined, firm tannins evolve into a very full, velvety texture.
