Château Pontet-Canet
Due to the summer drought, the grapes were plentiful but still quite small, which contributed to density and concentration. The high temperatures in August and September enabled the grapes to ripen slowly and reach excellent maturity, so that the harvest began with the Merlot on 26 September and continued under perfect conditions until 14 October. In the winery, each grape variety and plot was vinified separately, as usual, to allow its intrinsic character to express itself. The wines, now blended, have a remarkable colour, intense fruit and spice aromas and a dense texture with very rich, well-rounded tannins.
Their density and substance make the 2016 vintage comparable to the best wines of this century. Aged 55% in new French oak barrels, 35% in amphora and the rest of the wine in one-year-old barrels.
