Robert Parker, tasting note published in March 27th 2020
Medium to deep garnet in colour, the nose emerges slowly, medium-bodied, with notions of candied Morello cherries, cooked blackcurrant and blackberry jam, giving way to hints of pencil shavings, unsmoked cigars, Chinese five-spice and sandalwood, as well as very subtle cardamom and eucalyptus notes. Medium-bodied, the palate offers black and red fruit jams with a firm, grainy texture and fantastic freshness, finishing with a real firework of lingering spices and minerals. This is a more restrained and relatively elegant vintage of Latour, which may not have the iron-fisted power in a velvet glove of the great vintages, but nevertheless shows off its superior terroir and behind-the-scenes skills with impressive panache. It's ready to drink now with sufficiently round and approachable tannins, and the tertiary characters are just beginning to bring some more cerebral elements to the tantalising, primary black fruit jam. But if you're looking to drink it fully, to make it blaze, give it another 5-10 years in bottle and drink it for the next 20-25+ years.
One of the oldest properties in Pauillac, Latour has a history dating back to the 14th century. Documents dating back to 1331 show that Pons, the Seigneur de Castillon, allowed one of the most powerful families at the time to build a fortified tower in the area where the château now stands. At the end of the 17th century, Latour became the property of the Segur family, and as early as 1718, the château’s modern history began to flourish. The estate acquired several vineyards around the château, which years later would become the famous Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Calon Segur. From then until today, Latour’s reputation has only grown and it is considered one of the great wines of the Médoc. 1st Grand Cru Classé of Bordeaux in 1855, Château Latour is one of the most famous and important wines in the world, capable of ageing beautifully for decades. Today, the estate boasts 78 hectares of vineyards set in gravelly soils, and since 2015 its wines have been biodynamic certified. Aged in oak barrels for 18 months.

Château Latour
Château Latour is one of the most famous wine producers in Bordeaux and in the world. It is situated in the southeast corner of the commune of Pauillac, on the border of Saint-Julien, in the Médoc region. Rated as a first growth in the 1855 Bordeaux classification, it has become one of the most sought after and expensive wine producers on the planet. It produces dominant, highly structured Cabernet Sauvignon wines that can last many decades. A garden that contains over 750,000 vines, each with its own story. Château Latour’s vineyards are a magnificent mosaic, with some vines over one hundred years old, contributing to the magic of wines year after year. They are also constantly evolving, requiring patience, meticulous attention to detail and a great deal of care to ensure the healthy development of the young vineyards that will gradually replace the older ones.
