O Produtor, tasting note published in April 16th 2015

The colour of this wine is close to a superb ruby red, with a purplish sheen.
The nose reveals itself with excitement. The aromas follow each other in a superb starting with a woody side, then come the red fruits and then the terroir through and through flavours of cocoa powder, roast and Havana.
On the palate, the initial sweetness gives way to the appearance of tannic structure.
Despite a palpable density, the tannins have a great, infinite finish.
The depth and smoothness of the 1989 wine are found in this wine, the thickness of the 2000, the freshness of the 2005 and the unconsciousness of the 2009.

This Château Haut-Brion wine estate dates back to 1525 and it was in 1550 that its owner built the north wing.

The vineyard spreads on a gravelly soil over a sandy clay base.

The vineyard covers 51 hectares (48 hectares for red and 3 hectares for white), with an average age of 40 years for reds and 30 years for whites. Production reaches 160 barrels per year for the red and 9 barrels for the white, depending on the year, which is 192,000 bottles for the red and 11,000 bottles for the white, and an average yield per hectare of 3,000 litres for the red and 2,800 for the white.

Grape varieties for red: Cabernet Sauvignon 44%, Merlot Noir 42% and Cabernet Franc 14%.

All the harvesting is done by hand and the wine is entirely aged in barrels, of which 70 to 100% in new barrels, depending on the year, for 12 months for the white and 18 months for the red before being bottled.
