James Suckling, tasting note published in February 12th 2018
Impressive richness and clarity of red and dark berries. Slightly spicy pastry aromas as well. The palate has a very crisp, polished and well cared for tannin texture as well as super fresh flavours that carry a long time. Great wine. Try it from 2022.
In Château Cantemerle Cabernet Sauvignon makes up half the blend, with 40% merlot and 5% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the rest, and the wine is aged in oak (50% new) for 12 months.
Château Cantemerle is often one of the best buys in Bordeaux because it offers fragrance, elegance, charm and balance, which are the hallmarks of a good claret, without trying to push too hard or win awards. It will age gracefully for between five and 20 years.

Château Cantemerle
Located in the southern part of the Bordeaux Medoc peninsula, near the villages of Macau & Ludon, Château Cantemerle, designated for great growth in the famous 1855 classification, has a deep gravelly soil. Thanks to its unique terroir, Château Cantemerle produces complex, well-balanced and refined wines.
After belonging to the Villeneuve (1579-1892) and Dubos (1892-1980) families, the château was acquired in 1981 by Groupe SMA, a large mutual insurance company in the construction and civil engineering sector. The property’s long history is reflected in the distinctive architecture of the château and the magnificent grounds that surround it. The château exudes a romantic charm and its wine has a magical touch!
