Catarina
Profile
Produced from the Castelão and Alicante Henri Bouschet grape varieties, planted in the Setúbal Peninsula where the grapes have excellent ripening conditions that enhance the personality of each of the varieties. These Castelão and Alicante Bouschet varieties find the ideal terroir for rich, full-bodied, mouth-filling, elegant and complex wines in the low-production vineyards of Palmela’s sandy soils. The two varieties were vinified separately using a traditional method and kept apart until the final blend was created. Twenty-five per cent of the wine was aged for 12 months in used French oak barrels. The Catarina wine shows an excellent balance between the characteristic flavours of the grape varieties and the wood, with a long persistence of taste.

Gastronomy
Catarina Red is the ideal wine to share at the table or in a late afternoon. Very versatile at the gastronomic level and can be combined with a wide variety of dishes.
History
Catarina was born in the 1981 harvest, in honour of D. Catarina de Bragança, Princess of Portugal and Queen of England and was the first Portuguese white wine brand to ferment partially in new wooden barrels. More recently, Catarina red wine was launched, which, like the white wine, stands out for its youthful, irreverent and fresh presentation, translating the terroir of the Setúbal Peninsula and conveying the brand’s permanent evolution.
