Casa Américo
Casa Américo” was established by the hands of Américo Seabra, father, who had a dream of producing wine in the land where he was born, Vila Nova de Tazém. The project was followed by his sons who restored the 18th century property and built a new winery. Today, Casa Américo has 100 hectares of vineyards, the oldest of which are over 100 years old. They are planted with the noble varieties of the Dão region,
They are located on poor granite soil and are planted between 500 and 600m altitude. The sub-region where they are located, Serra da Estrela, is one of the Dão’s most important terroirs and here wines with a unique freshness and elegance are produced. The grapes come from a plot located in Vila Nova de Tázem. The vineyards are 50 years old, producing about 4 tons/ha and are harvested at their ideal ripeness.
The grapes were carefully selected in the vineyard and then totally destemmed in a granite press. During fermentation the must was homogenised by foot treadinǵ, with temperature control through endogenous plates. This wine aged a minimum of 12 months in bottle before going to market. Aged in stainless steel tanks.
