This wine is named after the mountain of Puig de sa Rateta, which is part of the Sierra de Tramontana. At 1,113 meters, it’s one of the highest mountains on the island. The mountain rises towards the sky just in front of the beautiful Embassament de Cúber lake, which you pass on the way to Puig Major. This mountain is as powerful as the Syrah wine. The mountain faces the winery at a 334° angle.
This year, the Syrah was harvested on two different dates with 17 days between them. The first harvest was on September 1st and the second on September 17th. This has given us a super complex Syrah once again.
After chilling the grapes overnight, they were hand-sorted, de-stemmed, and crushed, and left to ferment on the skins before being gently pressed and then transferred into 7 beautiful 500-litre oak barrels from various coopers to ensure greater complexity.
When we started working on the final blend of Sa Rateta during the summer of 2022, some barrels really created magic together and truly embodied what we want Sa Rateta to be. So we quickly decided to put together 7 out of a total of 10 barrels for this year’s Syrah puzzle. Thus, the 2021 Sa Rateta is comprised of barrels: #9, #12, #13, #33, #34, #37, and #38. The remaining 3 barrels showed their own specific beauty and were blended with some lush Merlot for our artist wine.
Aging in oak barrel: October 2021 – October 2022.
Bottling: November 2022. Released in December 2022.
The perfect wine for everything bold, juicy, and bloody, but also so beautiful that it can easily shine on its own. Served with some spiced almonds and olives, while listening to Shirley Bassey or Tom Jones, it will leave you speechless! Try it with grilled chicken or lamb chops with smoked eggplant and salsa macha!
